Virtual Learning Thursday, May 14th

It is the Lord who goes before you.  He will be with you; He will not leave or forsake you.  Do not fear or be dismayed.

                                        Deuteronomy 31:8

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good.                    Romans 8:28

Jesus Time-Congratulations, you have finished all your Jesus Time books for 2nd grade.  Read and do p. 15-16 “Paul' is Shipwrecked”  in your orange Jesus time book.

Even through a shipwreck, God saved everyone aboard.  In our life journey, we will have troubles and days that will not be fun.  But that does not mean that we are alone and without God's love.  He promises to guide and comfort us.  An optional activity for this lesson is to paint a stormy sea using watercolor paint.  Use blue, purple, green, and black paint to paint your stormy sea.  Make large, foamy waves.  After it dries, use a black sharpie or marker to write one of today's verses over the waves.  Through difficult times remember to recite these words over and over, for they are God's promises to us.

Social Studies-Check out our Classmate's Timelines of their lives.  They are on our Blog, it’s on the previous post.  Some new ones are added.
Check out the Timeline of Our Community.  View it on fullscreen and pull the bottom blue bar over so you can see all the events.  We will continue to be studying the events on this timeline.  Virtual Field Trip today is to our very own church and school, Trinity Lutheran.  Trinity was first founded the same year the Rose Garden opened in 1882, and just a few years after electricity was available in homes. In 1882 Pastor Boeing came to Mt. Clemens to start a church. On April 18, 1885, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Congregation was started.  The services were in German, and in a public hall.  After land on Dickinson Street was donated, a building was made where Sunday worship and classes for Trinity's school were held.  In 1900, a new church was built by the school children and church members, next to the other buildings.  A new school building was dedicated in 1926, and the Sunday morning church services in English started at this time.  It had almost 1000 members.  In 1937, a second pastor was called to Trinity, to direct the youth.  He also started a ministry to include connection to the community.  In 1947 Trinity was renamed Trinity Lutheran Church of Mount Clemens.  A new school and building was built and dedicated in 1955, on Harper, our current site.  Trinity had over 1100 people worshipping during 3 services on Sunday.  The current church building was dedicated in 1968, so all members could worship at one time.

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God.               1 John 3:1

Jesus Time-Read p. 13 “Paul's Nephew Saves His Life”  in your orange Jesus time book.  Paul's work on this earth wasn't finished yet.  God needed Paul to continue helping people know more about Jesus.  The last thing Jesus said to His disciples was "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you" Matthew 28:19-20

God wants us to tell others about Jesus.  We can do little things that show God's love and kindness.  He sends us the Holy Spirit to help us pray for others, read the Bible to them, and help and encourage others in many ways.
Go to page 14, look at each picture and decide how we might help, or what we could do to encourage one of God's children. God has given us our church/school family to encourage each other.

Listen to this song about encouraging each other- Together

Go to Seesaw for our Virtual Field trip to Crocker House and Mount Clemens Mineral Baths.
The Crocker House was Mount Clemens first mayor, Joshua's Dickinson's house.  It was built in 1869.  His daughter, Katherine, and son-in-law, George M. Crocker ended up living in the house one year after it was built.  She was the great-granddaughter of Mount Clemens founder, Christian Clemens. It was picked up and moved from its original location.  You can go on tours of the house when things open back up.  It contains many artifacts, which are things used back in time.
Olympia Spa and Salon is a mineral bath house that is still used today.  Mount Clemens was once known as the bath city of America.  The mineral baths were the largest industry in Mount Clemens, for more than 100 years.  The mineral baths were drawn from springs scattered throughout the city.  The baths helped relieve skin conditions like eczema, and joint and muscle pain.
Another Bath House that is still standing is Saint Joseph's, which opened in 1899.  This one was the fanciest bath house.  Many wealthy celebrities came here including:  Babe Ruth and Clark Gable.

You could also just record the changes of one plant if you have already planted it.  Each day keep records of its changes in your science notebook.

Hear my prayer, Lord; let my cry for help come to you.

                      Psalm 102:1

During our Jesus time we will focus on the Psalms. The book of Psalms is a collection of one hundred and fifty works of Hebrew poetry.  They are prayers and praises written to be sung in worship to God.  They cover every possible situation that life could ever throw at us. They are written so God’s people could talk with Him in the midst of the situations of life.  You can use the Psalms to talk with God through the very words of scripture. You can read the them back to God as prayers and songs.

I am going to take you on a virtual tour of Mount Clemens to learn about some of the History of our community.  Our first stop is going to be the Michigan Transit Museum.  Watch the videos on Seesaw as I traveled by bike to the Michigan Transit Museum and learn about Thomas Edison’s life here.  I even got to go inside the museum for a minute to take a picture of the telegraph.  A worker happened to walk up in the middle of our video shoot, and let us in to take a picture to show you.

The transit museum opened in 1859.

The picture below is the Michigan Transit Museum, Thomas Edison worked here delivering papers when he was 12 years old.  When he was 15 years old he saved the owner’s son from a train accident.   After that the owner promoted him to work on the telegraph machine in the station.

The Telegraph machine shown above, inspired Thomas Edison with ideas for his future inventions.  He invented the phonograph, a kinetograph,  a long lasting lightbulb, and the wires that carry the electricity to homes.
The sign tells the Story of Thomas Edison working at the Michigan Transit Museum.
